Getting Here
Up the mountain, right at the lane, left at the gate.
Minca is about 20 km from Santa Marta, up in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The house is a short, mostly flat walk from where the vans stop. Here is everything you need, with the bits that change marked as such.
From Santa Marta
- 1
Shared van (colectivo)
The cheapest way up. Vans run by the Cootransminca cooperative leave from near Santa Marta’s public market (Hostelworld’s Minca guide puts the stop on Carrera 9, between Calles 11d and 10). They go when they are full. The ride takes 30–60 minutes, longer at weekends and holidays. Travellers reported the last van around 17:00 (2023): do not count on later.

Taxi or private car
Faster and door-ish to door. Agree the fare before you get in; ask the driver to take the right turn into Calle de la Casona as you enter town.
travellers’ reports - 3
Mototaxi
Common around Minca and from the outskirts of Santa Marta (for example from Yucal). Fares are not fixed: agree before you ride, and keep your backpack small.

From the airport, Tayrona or Palomino
From the airport, travellers take a bus into town to the market and change to the Minca van. Coming from Tayrona or Palomino, they get off near the Rumbodromo in Mamatoco and continue by taxi or mototaxi. Routes change: double-check locally.

The last five minutes, in Daniel’s words
- As you come into town, take an immediate right at Calle de la Casona. Do not go into Hotel Minca’s driveway.
- Continue straight for about 300 metres, around five minutes on foot.
- When you see the dark gate with the stone pillars and round lamps on top, keep left.
- Third house on your right: the white house under the big tree, with the wire fencing.
Directions written by Daniel on his Hostelworld listing. Guests describe the walk as flat (“no up hills”).
Arriving
- Check-in is 14:00–19:00. Later than that? Message Daniel before you travel; late arrival is not guaranteed.
- Bring cash: payment is on arrival, and Minca has historically had no ATM.
- Luggage storage is free if you arrive early or leave late.
- It gets dark fast in the mountains and the lane is unlit: a torch helps.
- The lane is unpaved; in the dry season it can be dusty, in the rain, muddy.
Arriving after 19:00? Message Daniel before you travel — late arrival is not guaranteed.
Access
The house is single-storey and the walk from the centre is described as flat, but the lane is unpaved and nothing on the listing describes step-free access or adapted bathrooms. If you have specific needs, ask Daniel before booking.
Arrival questions
How do I pay?
The house rules say payment on arrival, in cash. If you book through Hostelworld, they charge a small deposit online. Minca has historically had no ATM, so bring pesos from Santa Marta.
Guests mention it — ask DanielWhat are check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is from 14:00 to 19:00 and check-out is until 13:00. Coming later than 19:00? Message Daniel before you travel; late arrival is not guaranteed.
How far is it from the centre and the river?
About 0.4 km from the centre, roughly five minutes on foot from where the colectivos stop, on a mostly flat lane. Guests say the river is about two minutes away.
