Explore Minca:
The Daniel’s field guideA field guide in eleven places
Waterfalls to swim under, a coffee farm founded in 1892, birds that live nowhere else, and a mountain tall enough to see the snow. Practical notes for each: how to get there, how long it takes, what to bring and what to watch out for.
Daniel does not sell tours. This guide is here so you can explore on your own, and he is happy to share local tips. Fees, hours and trail conditions change: check locally.

Where everything is (roughly)
Before you go anywhere
- Cash
- Minca has historically had no ATM. Bring pesos for entry fees, mototaxis and snacks.
- Mototaxis
- Fares change and are not fixed: agree the price before you get on.
- Rain
- Afternoon showers are common in the wetter months; rivers rise fast after rain upstream.
- Sand flies
- Long sleeves and trousers help more than repellent alone, especially near rivers.
- Offline map
- Download an offline map before you leave the house; signal is patchy on the trails.
- Tell someone
- Let Daniel or a friend know your route and when you expect to be back.
